Legal Document Organizational Guide
File names should use the following format:
(Status)-(File Type)-(Title)-(Version)-(Date Created)-(Creator Initials)
The title should describe the basics of what's in the document.
Typically most paperwork should be done by the active peacekeeper.
For simplicity, formal abbreviation should ALWAYS be used. See below for details.
- ANS - Answer
- A spoken or written reply to a question, request, letter, etc.
- AP - Ammended Position
- Atty - Attorney
- A person who represents clients in a court room, or to advise or act for clients in other legal matters.
- D - Defendant
- The person on trial. The accused.
- Decl - Decleration
- An official statement a person makes. If the declarent lies in, the declarent may be found guilty of perjury.
- Depo - Deposition
- The recorded sworn oral testimony of a party or witness before trial.
- Disco - Discovery
- The process in which all evidence is shown to each Atty to prevent surprises in the courtroom.
- Jmy - Judgement
- The final decision made by the court.
- J - Jury
- A group of persons to render a verdict in the courtroom.
- Ltr - Letter
- A direct or personal messege addressed to a person or orginization.
- MIL - Motion In Limine
- A pretrial motion asking that certain evidence be found inadmissible, and that it not be referred to or offered at trial.
- MSA - Motion for Summery Adjudication
- I pre-trial procedural device where the PK can determine the strength of a case before an official case is made.
- Mtn - Motion
- A formal request by any party for a desired ruling.
- MTS - Motion To Strike
- A request to a judge that part of a party's pleading or a piece of evidence be removed from the record.
- OC - Original Complaint
- The pleading that starts a case.
- Opp - Opposition
- A written statement explaining to the judge why the other side is not entitled to whatever they are asking for in their motion.
- P - Plaintiff
- The party who initiates a lawsuit.
- PC - People's Court
- The active court system being used.
- PK - Peacekeeper
- The person in charge of keeping peace in a courtroom, and keeping arguments civil.
- POS - Proof Of Service
- A Proof of Service is a document filed with the Court to show that the summons and complaint were successfully served on the defendant in a lawsuit
- Re - Regarding
- With respect to, concerning.
- RFA - Request For Admission
- A device that allows one party to request that another party admit or deny the truth of a statement under oath.
- RFP - Request For Production of documents
- A discovery device used to gain access to documents, electronic data, and physical items held by an opposing party in a legal matter.
- Rog - Interrogatories
- Written questions sent by one party to another as part of discovery.
- Stip - Stipulations
- A condition or requirement that is specified or demanded as part of an agreement.
- Sub - Subpoena
- A write ordering a person to attend court.
- Sum - Summons
- A form prepared by the plaintiff and issued by a court that informs the defendant that they are being sued or are required to appear in court.
- V - Version
- The varient of an original, typically a document.
